Cooling Tower

Spacco Cooling Towers deliver independently verified, fully rated thermal performance over a wide range of flow and temperature requirements. Standard design features satisfy today's environmental concerns, minimize installation costs, maximize operating reliability and simplify maintenance requirements.

• Low energy consumption
• Low installed cost
• Easy maintenance
• Reliable year-round operation
• Long service life
• As per CTI Standard

Cooling towers are designed in two different configurations, counter flow and cross flow. The specific configuration indicates the direction of air flow through the tower relative to the direction of the water flow. Cooling tower water and air distribution systems are designed in concert, with each playing an equally important role in determining the efficiency and proper application of the cooling tower.

COUNTER FLOW TYPE COOLING TOWER

ADVANTAGES OF COUNTER FLOW cooling towers due to their pressurized spray water distribution system

  • Increased tower height accomodates longer ranges & closer approches.
  • More efficient use of air due to finer droplet size from pressure spray.

    a.  SPC SERIES.
These are Round type F.R.P. (Fiber body with stainless steel or galvanized steel structured) counter flow Cooling Towers. Capacity range from 10 USRT to 1500 USRT i.e. from 35 kw to 5.27 Mw per one cell.

    b.  SCF SERIES.
These are Square type F.R.P. (Fiber body with stainless steel or galvanized steel structured) counter flow Cooling Towers. Capacity range from 50 USRT to 1500 USRT i.e. from 52.7 kW to 5.27 Mw per one cell and we can join these cells together for higher capacities.

    c.  SQC SERIES.
These are Square Type timber treated cooling towers. Capacity range from 1000 USRT to 4000 USRT i.e. from 3.5Mw to 14 Mw per one cell.

    d.  SCR SERIES.
These are Square Type Concrete cooling towers. Capacity range from 1000 USRT to 4000 USRT i.e. from 3.5 Mw to 14 Mw per one cell.

    CROSS FLOW TYPE COOLING TOWER

ADVANTAGES OF CROSSFLOW cooling towers due to their gravity flow hot water distribution
    system:

    • Low Pumping head.
    • Lower first cost pumping systems.
    • Lower annual energy consumption and operating costs.
    • Accepts larger variation in water flow without adverse effect on the water distribution pattern.
    • Easy maintenance access to distribution trays.

    a.  STA SERIES.
These are Square type F.R.P. (Fiber body with stainless steel or galvanized steel structured) cross flow Cooling Towers. Capacity range from 100 USRT to 1000 USRT i.e. from 350 kW to 3.5 Mw per one cell and we can join these cells together for higher capacities.

    b- SWX SERIES.
These are Cross Flow Wood Structured Cooling Towers. Capacity range from 300 USRT to 3000 USRT i.e. from 1Mw to 10 Mw per one cell.

    c.  SRX SERIES.
These are Cross Flow Concrete Structure Cooling Towers. Capacity range from 300 USRT to 3000 USRT i.e. from 1Mw to 10 Mw per one cell.

    CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The air and water distribution systems for counter flow and cross flow cooling towers have advantages and disadvantages inherent in their respective designs. It cannot be said that one is better than the other. Rather, with the proper application, both configurations are cost effective and can serve the end user well.

Cross flow cooling towers should be specified when the following criteria and limitations are important:

    • To minimize pump head.
    • To minimize pumping and piping first costs.
    • To minimize operating costs.
    • When condenser water flow variance is expected.
    • When ease of maintenance is a concern.

Counter flow cooling towers should be specified when the following criteria and limitations are important:

    • When space (footprint) is restricted.
    • When icing is of extreme concern.
    • When pumping is designed for additional pressure drop.

CAUTION: Never replace an existing cross flow tower with a counter flow tower without engineering evaluation to determine the available condenser water pumping capacity.
If a cross flow tower is specified, a counter flow tower is not an equal alternative.

Cooling tower performance is related to the amount of air moving through the tower and coming into direct contact with the water.
